We no longer release balloons in memory of Troy and have not done so
for many year after being educated
on the devastating effect it may cause. These effects include:
creating litter, harming wildlife
and causing power outages.
When a balloon is released into the air, it will eventually come down,
and when that happens, it can fall in unwanted places.
Birds, turtles and other animals and wildlife commonly mistake
balloons for food, which can harm or even kill them.
In addition, many animals can become entangled in balloon strings,
which can strangle them or hurt their feet and hands.
The metallic coating on foil balloons conducts electricity and can
cause a short circuitor power surge when in
contact with power lines. This can lead to power outages, damage
to wires, and sparks that could start fires.
